For more than two decades, Albuquerque ThoroClean has established an outstanding reputation for its carpet cleaning and treatment services. But owner Thomas Conway says the company is just as passionate about customer care.

“It’s so important that we do great work,” he says. “I treat all of my customers like family.”

Now, ThoroClean has recently expanded its operations to include more services to help customers with their residential cleaning needs.

ThoroClean, a family owned and operated company founded in 1996, now also offers air duct cleaning as well as Oriental and specialty rug cleaning and restoration. And to accommodate an increase in business, the company recently moved into a 5,000-square-foot warehouse at 3206 Alta Monte Ave. NE.

“We purchased this new facility because it allows us to invest in the equipment necessary to clean high-end rugs,” says Conway. “Half of this facility will be devoted to area rug cleaning. Since we’ve expanded our services, we have received rugs from Taos, Red River, Placitas and Santa Fe. We always want to make sure that we are up-to-date on the latest cleaning chemistry as well as equipment and tools for our industry.”

Conway says the best way to maintain area rugs is to, first, remove the dry soil that has accumulated in and on them through everyday wear and tear. He also recommends that at least once a year turning your area rug upside down and using a vacuum cleaner on the back of the rug. It won’t get the rug completely clean, but it could lessen any harm. “What damages a rug is dirt scratching and abrading the fibers and removing the lanolin from the wool,” he explains. “The lanolin is the natural protector on wool. Residential vacuums just don’t have the capacity to remove the amount of fine particulates that they should.”

ThoroClean is running a 25 percent savings on area rug and air duct cleaning through the end of August to new customers.

Conway, who continually invests in courses relating to indoor cleaning and restoration, says that if you vacuum your carpet on a regular basis and you get it professionally cleaned regularly, you could extend the life of that carpet by more than 20 years. “The number one cause of premature replacement of rugs is maintenance issues,” he says.

He recommends that a family of four invest in professionally cleaning carpets at least once a year. For a family of six, he recommends using a professional carpet cleaner every eight months. And for a family of eight, twice a year.

ThoroClean is highly selective when it comes to hiring employees, notes Conway, making an effort to hire team members who are honest, hardworking and reliable. “Everyone here is upfront, and we have no sales staff on payroll,” he says. Conway points toward the front desk, where a young man is taking calls, adding: “That’s Anthony. He’s not a great salesman, but he’s a great carpet cleaner and human being.”

ThoroClean conducts comprehensive background checks on all prospective employees. Once hired, the company provides opportunities for advanced training and certification. And with these new skills, Conway says ThoroClean has been able to expand its services beyond simple carpet cleaning, including tile and grout cleaning, upholstery cleaning, pet stain removal, and specialty spotting.

ThoroClean has a master’s certification from the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, the highest certification in textile cleaning. All company lead technicians must be certified in two areas.

ThoroClean also offers water extraction and cleanup at all hours, any day of the week. Whether the cause is a leaky roof, a broken pipe or an overflowing appliance, the company will dispatch a team of experienced technicians in an attempt to fix the problem.

The technicians at ThoroClean are also experts in air duct cleaning.

Conway recommends that homeowners get their air ducts professionally cleaned at least every two years if they live in the country and every three years if they live in town.

“We cover the openings of all the vents with our truck mounted HEPA vacuum and that creates extreme suction through those vents and we blast all the dirt and debris off the walls of the vents and extract it into our truck,” says Conway. “Once we have effectively removed the dry soil from the vents we spray an anti-allergen through that vent system and that’s going to kill off any existing microbial growth, mold, pollen and mildew —anything that can cause respiratory issues.”

Conway says customers can expect superior customer service and attention to detail whether they use ThoroClean’s mobile services or state-of-the-art rug-cleaning facility. “We are a full-service company that strives to do the best job every time,” he adds. “That includes cleaning and restoration of any type of carpet — from high-end Persians to an everyday area rug.”

Customers have raved about ThoroClean’s customer service on rating sites like Yelp. The satisfied clients note the quality of the job as well as the company culture. Conway says in addition to the excellent work his company performs, customers can expect team members to have respect for their personal belongings while in the home. “It’s a privilege to be in someone else’s home, and we don’t take that lightly,” he explains. “We always treat a customer’s property like it’s our own, using protective measures, and notifying the customer when we move an item in the home.

For all its services, ThoroClean guarantees their results. “If our recommendation and treatment is not to a customer’s satisfaction, we’ll credit their account to move to next steps,” notes Conway.

Additionally, Conway says that ThoroClean doesn’t charge customers any hidden fees. “When we quote a customer a price over the phone, that is what they will pay,” he says. “Everything that is required to clean the carpet or duct will be there.”

Their honest and fair pricing, along with their skilled and efficient employees, have established ThoroClean as one of the state’s oldest and most successful cleaning and restoration companies.
