With attractive and interactive displays, sample books exploding with fabric swatches and a showroom that’s open every day of the week, it’s easy to see why homeowners looking to improve their window coverings are drawn to Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho.

“Customer service is a huge part of our business,” explains Jared Munoz, who, with Dale Sapp, opened Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho in 2005. “We spend much of our time focusing on making sure our customers are satisfied.”

Indeed, Budget Blinds has a reputation for providing quality blinds to residential and commercial customers at a competitive price. Franchise owners benefit from the company’s status while also enjoying more latitude to personalize their business more than many franchises offer, notes Munoz.

“We do a number of things that we think make us unique,” he says. “The way we’ve set up our showroom for instance. We want customers to walk into the store and see the widest possible amount of choices.”

Budget Blinds offers an exclusive five-year, no-

questions-asked warranty on many products, in addition to the standard manufacturer’s warranty. “If for any reason you damage a shade, including damage from pets, children and stains, we will replace it one time, free of charge, no questions asked,” explains Munoz. “Every product that we sell is made to withstand the harsh sun of New Mexico, meaning our products won’t turn yellow or brown.”

“With the warranty, we aren’t concerned with how one of our products has been damaged, we’re simply concerned with replacing it with equal value,” adds Sapp. “We notice an increase in warranty jobs around certain times of the year, like the Fourth of July and Halloween. Dogs tend to tear up blinds when fireworks go off or lots of people are ringing the doorbell. A new one though, is overzealous dads trying out their kids’ new drones inside the house,” he adds with a smile.

Motorization and home automation are relatively new developments in the window covering business, notes Munoz, and Budget Blinds is a front-runner in offering these new technologies. “We have systems that can be run by remote control,” he explains. “Another option are products that can programmed to open and close the blinds at certain times, or controlled via smart device. These are great options for restaurants and homes with small children.”

The Budget Blinds showroom has more than 65,000 fabrics for custom draperies, bedding, upholstery, and carries products from 25 different manufacturers. Many local blind companies offer products from only one or two companies, notes Munoz.

Customers are encouraged to take advantage of the free, in-home consultation offered by Budget Blinds. And if a client wants something to match their current décor, a team member can bring samples to the client’s home. “We walk through the house with you and ask what is the purpose in covering this window,” explains Munoz. “Are you trying to change the aesthetics? Provide insulation or light control? From there we will focus on the products that will provide what you want.”

Budget Blinds also provides safe options for aging-in-place customers and for clients that have young children at home. “You really don’t want an elderly family member to reach over a wet tub and raise or lower window coverings, creating additional risk,” says Munoz. “Motorization in window coverings is a safe choice. We also offer child-safe window treatments to prevent any accidents.”

Budget Blinds also looks out for the welfare of their local community. In partnership with the Albuquerque Fire Department’s Random Acts of Kindness program, the company and its valued vendors provide window treatments to local victims of house fires and other losses.

On a national level, the parent company has partnered with Homes for Our Troops, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building specially- adapted, mortgage-free homes for severely-injured veterans, donating $50,000 to the organization’s GoFundMe site online. The parent company also participates in the Troops in Transition program, which provides military veterans who have left active duty within the past two years, a chance to own a franchise with no initial entry fee.

Budget Blinds provides its showroom after business hours to specialty groups for meetings. “Tupperware parties, homeowner’s association meetings, you name it, are more than welcome to use our showroom,” says Munoz.

Another cause close to Munoz’s heart is pet adoption. He hopes to pair up with an adoption agency to provide space for adoption events in his parking lot.

Although Budget Blinds has a firm commitment to supporting Rio Rancho, they also serve other areas of New Mexico. The company has recently served customers in Belen, Los Lunas, Lemitar and the East Mountains.

In addition to their selection and commitment to customer service, Budget Blinds offers many payment options, including 100 percent in-house, interest-free financing. “There really is no better time to add shutters, insulate a room, or add style to your home,” says Munoz, “and Budget Blinds is the place to start.”

Customers can also drop off broken blinds for repair and get them fixed in three to five business days, he adds. The Budget Blinds of Rio Rancho showroom is located at 3771 Southern Blvd. SE, just west of NM Highway 528, in Rio Rancho. They’re open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Appointments for in-home consultations can be scheduled any time, including weekends and holidays. For more information or to schedule a consultation, call 892-3281. Customers are also encouraged to check out the company’s website, extensive online showroom and order swatches at www.budgetblinds.com, and like them on Facebook.

Customers can also visit Budget Blinds in September at both the Albuquerque Home Remodeling & Lifestyle Show at Expo New Mexico and the Cherry and Silver Home Show at the Pit.
