As Air Conditioning Systems Inc. approaches its 30-year anniversary, owner Carl Rechtenbach continues to provide quality heating and cooling services to his customers.

“We won’t undersell and we won’t oversell,” he says. “We want customers to purchase something that’s going to do the job and we want to give them different options so that they can make an informed decision as to what they need.”

Carl has been working in the heating and cooling industry since he was 11 years old. He remembers going on service calls with his former brother-in-law and later attending technical classes during high school.

“By the time I graduated from high school, I was a licensed air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic,” he says. “I like creating comfort and providing quality at a great price.”

He also likes to feel needed and a sense of connection with others in the community. This hasn’t been so easy in recent years, following a serious car accident near the Air Conditioning Systems office, located at 10011 Southern Ave. SE.

During the afternoon on Memorial Day in 2015, Carl was driving his truck when he was struck by another vehicle that had run a red light at the intersection of Eubank Boulevard and Southern Avenue in Albuquerque. The impact left him with multiple spinal cord injuries, a fractured hip and six broken ribs.

“I still came to work every day,” Carl says, smiling, on a recent morning. “What do you do? You just keep on going.”

Despite the injuries sustained from the auto accident, Carl says they haven’t stopped him from continuing to oversee operations at Air Conditioning Systems. “My employees and my customers count on me to overcome adversity,” he says. “I’m in it for the long haul. I’m not going anywhere.”

Air Conditioning Systems has been providing service in and around Albuquerque since 1985, and is locally owned with no national franchises to maneuver through and no out-of-town customer service numbers to call. This independence, explains Carl, has allowed the company to offer quality products from a variety of manufacturers.

Air Conditioning Systems repairs and installs heating and cooling systems for properties. Carl says he and his team will meet with the customer and discuss which system works best.

Work done by Air Conditioning Systems Inc. can be focused on a customer’s unique situation, whether it’s improved ventilation, heating, evaporative cooling, refrigerated air or maintenance on any system. The company’s 10,000-square-foot warehouse includes fabricating equipment that allows the Air Conditioning Systems crew to make custom ductwork and other components for specific needs of a job. “If a customer needs something unconventional for their home or business, my team and I will design and install a heating or cooling system that best fits the customer’s needs,” says Carl.

“Every situation is unique when you consider the capacity of the equipment or even the way the air is circulated and distributed through a house,” he continues. “Every job is customized for each customer. We have been members of the New Mexico Home Builders Association since 1993.”

Is it time to replace your old heater? Air Conditioning Systems can do that, and more. It frequently installs Rheem products, which have been rated best in reliability by consumers nationwide, notes Carl. The company is currently offering big end-of-season deals right now on air conditioning, including savings of up to $2,100 on refrigerated air conversions.

Air Conditioning Systems provides free written estimates. The company has an A-plus rating with the Better Business Bureau and a 10,000-square foot warehouse with fabricating equipment, which, says Carl, is great for when customers need customized duct work and other components for specific needs on a job.

“Customers should keep in mind that some HVAC companies undersize the systems they sell to be a few hundred dollars cheaper. It’s important to have the right size system installed in the first place,” says Carl.

“We’ll engineer the ideal heating or cooling solution to meet your specific needs for years without breaking the bank,” he adds. “Not only do we provide the best products and services at the best possible prices, but we also supply energy-efficient equipment to help minimize those monthly utility bills.”

In a word, Air Conditioning Systems provides value. Installation is done professionally and with aesthetics in mind, with up to a ten-year warranty included on parts and labor, depending on the equipment, offered by our country’s top quality manufacturers.
