Local comedians Danger K. Varoz and Jason Green have opened a new venue for laughs in Albuquerque —but there’s a catch. Open Source Comedy, located Downtown at 206 3rd St. SW, is a members-only club, with monthly dues starting at $20.

Membership does have its privileges, though. Patrons can bring a guest to see touring stand-up comics each weekend, as well as partake in other events like open-mic nights, karaoke, game nights and parties — all inclusive.

“Our goal is to offer a safe space for comedians to write and shop their craft, to hang out with their colleagues and fans, and to exchange ideas with other performers as well as to produce comedy showcases with professional traveling headliners,” says Varoz.

Green adds that members-

only comedy clubs have gained popularity on the East Coast.

Varoz and Green are both veterans of the Albuquerque comedy scene, performing at open-mic nights and professionally. They have also performed independently at venues across the Southwest.

Varoz is also an actor and the producer of Sketchy TV, an online sketch comedy series from his production company, Secret Boy Films.
